Painters and site-specific installation, intervention, and alternative media artists. Allora studied at the University of Richmond, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Whitney Independent Study Program. Calzadilla studied at the Puerto Rico School of Plastic Arts, the University of Richmond, the Studio Art Centers International in Florence, the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and Bard College in New York. They have worked together since 1995 and have taken part in numerous international art events, such as the 24th Sao Paulo Biennial (1998), the Seventh Havana Biennial (2000), and the Venice Biennale (2005). Their work has been shown at galleries in Puerto Rico and New York. They have recently been involved in such site-specific installation projects as their three-part project Wake Up, whose first installation, Clamor, explores war music through history, while recontextualizing it. Their work explores the interaction between global politics and personal identity, and the barriers between the arts.
