Biography Details
Painter. Obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of Visual Arts with a major in Painting from Escuela de Artes Plásticas, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Won the Certamen Internacional de Pintura de la Diputación de Castellón, Spain (2005) the Award for Outstanding Representation of Puerto Rico from the International Association of Art Critics, Puerto Rico Chapter (2006). He has exhibited individually and collectively in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Spain, New York, California and Boston. His work can be found in collections in Puerto Rico and around the world. He is recognized for his paintings full of coats of pigment, glitter, and numerous textures and colorful patterns.
Artist Statement
“The process starts with the selection of materials and elements like brilliantine, acrylic, oil, canvas, necklaces, confetti and others. Then, I organize the materials by color and category. When the canvas is ready, is then when that I mix the materials to start the creative process. The initial chaos presents a mix of textures and forms, and here is when I intervene experimenting with the equilibrium, the composition, the mass and the volume. At this stage of transformation is where the colors act and start taking shape becoming the essence of my work. That is the crucial moment in which the final product materializes, where the adult is seduced by the captivating coloring being transported to the same primitive and pure state as when they were children. I could say that my work reflects the “neo-baroque” style based on the variety of materials I use to transmit extravagance, the paradox between the organized and disorganized, the esthetic limits, the excesses, the details, the chaos, the sensation of festivity and play… The scene where something always happens: life itself!”
